Beam besties on the move.

As a dermatologist, one of the biggest shifts I’ve seen of late is how complicated skincare for tweens and teens has become. There’s a constant stream of trending ingredients, multi-step routines and strong actives being marketed to younger skin. Kids know more about actives than their parents and are seeking them out.

When developing Beam rather than focusing on trends, we focused on what actually keeps skin healthy, balanced and resilient over time while being age-appropriate; barrier support and hydration.

A healthy barrier helps lock in moisture and protect against irritation, which is especially important in younger skin. Our formulations include ingredients that strengthen and support this function, such as:

  • Ceramides to reinforce the skin’s natural structure

  • Niacinamide to support barrier function and help regulate oil

  • Prebiotic ingredients like inulin to support a balanced skin microbiome

Our Beam ingredient picks that support hydration:

  • Glycerin to draw water into the skin (humectant)

  • Hyaluronic acid which also acts as a humectant

And just as importantly, there are things we’ve intentionally left out.

Beam avoids:

  • Harsh exfoliating acids

  • Strong “anti-ageing” actives

  • Added fragrance

  • Overcomplicated ingredient combinations

Because at this stage, skincare shouldn’t be about correction; it should be about care.

Formulations are equally crucial as ingredients, and cleansing is a step where mistakes are frequently made, something I observe daily in the clinic. Harsh cleansers can strip the skin, causing dryness and irritation, which may lead to more breakouts. Therefore, our approach is straightforward: cleanse effectively without disturbing the skin barrier. This is why our Jelly Pop cleanser emphasizes fun, milky-jelly textures that gently remove daily buildup.

Moisturizing adheres to a similar principle. Young skin doesn't require thick, overly rich creams, but it does need regular hydration. Lightweight, water-based formulas keep the skin feeling fresh while providing adequate support. The aim is to achieve skin that feels hydrated without being oily. Hydration is one of the essential foundations of skin health. When skin is well-hydrated, it performs better, feels more comfortable and is much less reactive.
